A veteran Cincinnati chef is opening a new concept inside a historic former East Side neighborhood hangout.

Chef Jared Bennett is opening Jarrido’s in the former Dutch’s building at 3378 Erie Ave. in Hyde Park.

Bennett has worked in a range of Tri-State kitchens including 21c Museum Hotel’s Metropole restaurant, Karrikin Spirits, Maplewood Kitchen and Bar, Branch in East Walnut Hills and more. Jarrido’s will have a full-service catering kitchen, a private event venue and serve as a hub for chef-driven pop-up events. The business will also offer online meal prep services.

Bennett is also opening a bar in the space called Hi-Dive.

“(I’m) looking for that to be a neighborhood hangout with quick budget-friendly choices,” he said.

This area will also serve pop-ups and will have a small menu, he said. The goal is to open in the spring of 2026.

Dutch’s has been closed since September, according to social media posts. Earlier this month, Bennett purchased the business assets from previous owner and chef Brad Bernstein, who now works for Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment as the executive chef for Carlo & Johnny.

Bennett signed a three-year lease with extension options with landlord Jay Ashmore.

“Jared brings experience, talent and passion that I am confident will breathe new energy into both the space and the neighborhood,” Ashmore told me.

Nick Pesola with 3CRE represented the tenant in the deal.

Bennett said the location in Hyde Park is fantastic and he was really drawn by the foot traffic in the area. He said the space is nearly turnkey, so renovations are minimal. He plans on investing less than $100,000 on the launch.

Dutch’s has had a long history in Hyde Park. It originally opened as a pony keg, a shop for beer to-go, in 1947. Ashmore purchased the property in 2007 and expanded it into the neighboring building in 2010. Two years later, it expanded again into Dutch’s Larder, which offered upscale meats and charcuterie.

Dutch’s closed in winter 2020. Bernstein purchased the business and reopened it in 2021.
