The Cincinnati Zoo
Fun And Adventure At The Cincinnati Zoo
The Cincinnati Zoo first opened in 1875 and is the second oldest zoo in the United States after the Philadelphia Zoo. It is considered to be one of the best zoos in the country renowned for its birthing programs (particularly for white tigers and gorillas) and endangered species. The zoo has an impressive collection of felines and a charming manatees exhibit.
During your visit to the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, you will be able to see more than 500 animals including hippos, lions and giraffes, and over 3,000 plant species. Seasonal attractions such as the Zoo Babies, Zoo Blooms, and HallZOOween are extremely popular and there are amazing animal presentations throughout the day that teach visitors about the wonderful array of animals in the zoo, where they come from, and their characteristics. Stop off at the Vine Street Village Welcome Center for information on feeding times and tips to help make the best of your visit.
Take a ride on the BB & T Express Train on an inner loop of the zoo and experience close-up encounters with meerkats with pop-up bubbles that allow you to have a closer look at these charismatic and quaint creatures.
The PNC Festival of Lights
Join in the fun from 18 November 2017 to 1 January 2018 when the whole zoo will be transformed into a wild wonderland lit up with 3 million LED lights. Visitors will be entertained by the Madcap black/white puppet show, rides on the Toyland Express, and a fairy hunt in Fairyland. When it starts to get dark, head out to Swan Lake where you can watch the Wild Lights Show, voted by USA Today as the number one Zoo Lights in the country.
Santa visits will take place at 4 pm for an hour before the main festivities begin and are something the kids look forward to with great excitement. The Festival of Lights will take place from 5 pm to 9 pm Sundays to Thursdays but will be closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve (the zoo will be open during the day on both these days). Christmas day the zoo will be closed all day.
