Riverscape Metro Park in Dayton Provides An Outdoor Oasis In The Heart Of The City
Located right in the heart of Dayton, Riverscape Metro Park provides an escape from the urban surroundings, allowing people to enjoy a touch of nature without having to travel outside of the city. Located right next to the Great Miami River, the park itself has countless activities available for visitors, making it a fun place to explore.
Open throughout the year, you can enjoy both summertime and wintertime activities in the park. During the winter, the ice-skating rink is open, offering everyone in your family a fun way to stay active. Open from the end of November to the end of February, the skating rink is 70 feet across and 150 feet long. It is sheltered from the weather by a pavilion, meaning that you can skate comfortably even if it is snowing outside.
There are a variety of different activities that you can do on the ice. For instance, they have lessons available for beginning skaters. They also offer fun sports like broomball and curling. Of course, there are also times available for open skating, as well, meaning that you can enjoy the rink however you see fit. With hot chocolate available and lively music playing in the background, it is easy to have a great time, even during the middle of the winter.
During the summer, there are also a lot of amazing things to do at the park. On hot days, kids can enjoy splashing around in the interactive fountains that are located on the festival plaza. The fountains, which shoot water as high as 20 feet up into the air, are designed to go off in time with music that is playing in the background, making it a fun and exciting experience for kids as they play. Nothing is more refreshing on a hot summer day than getting sprayed with water from a fountain.
Another must-see attraction at the park is the Five Rivers Fountain of Lights. This fountain, which is one of the biggest in the world, is truly a sight to behold. Located at the junction where the Great Miami River and the Mad River meet, it sprays water as high as 200 feet into the air. Even more impressive, the fountain itself measures more than 400 feet across. The fountain goes off every hour on the hour, spraying water for 8 full minutes each time. On weekdays, it runs from approximately 7 AM to 10 PM, while on weekends it runs from about 11 AM to 10 PM. If you are in the area, it is definitely worth watching.
Riverscape Metro Park also hosts some of the area’s largest festivals, making it a great place to get together for community events. During a festival, the area not only fills up with people but also with food trucks, music stages, and vendors.
