J.R Tilson

J.R. Tilson is a highly experienced real estate professional specializing in affordable multifamily housing, particularly LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) properties. Over the course of his career, J.R. has managed complex portfolios and facilitated multifamily transactions totaling more than $200 million. During his time at CBRE’s National Tax Credit Advisory Group, he played a key role in facilitating LIHTC sales transactions nationwide, providing advanced financial and legal analysis to value multifamily deals, including fee simple sales, partnership interest transfers, and portfolio dispositions.

J.R.’s diverse experience also includes roles at Red Capital Group, where he originated over $30 million in LIHTC multifamily loans, and Homeport, where he led acquisition analysis, LIHTC scoring, and predevelopment work. His background in both the financial and legal aspects of real estate gives him a comprehensive understanding of the affordable multifamily market. He holds an MBA and a Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University, where he was actively involved in real estate and finance associations.
